Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer (C/E), under direction, is responsible for all operations and maintenance that have to do with all engineering equipment throughout the entire ship. The C/E is never responsible for the action of ship. The C/E does not assume command of the ship and the command always rests with the deck officers unless it is clearly mentioned within the safety management system. The C/E will ultimately designate all the duties of the engine depart necessary with the first assistant engineer.


Chief Mate

The Chief Mate, under direction, is second to the Master in the chain of command and the Master’s direct representative. S/he is expected to assume the position and responsibility of the Master should the Master for any cause, be unable to perform his/her duties. S/he oversees the condition, appearance and safety of the vessel and the ship’s work and drills. All officers are under his/her orders in matters pertaining to operation and maintenance of the vessel—except for those matters that are the direct responsibility of the Chief Engineer. Marine Electrican

The Marine Electrician, under general supervision, provides electrical skills onboard seagoing vessels.


Marine Logistics Coordinator

The Coordinator, Marine Logistics, under direction, coordinates port call logistics activities with the drilling subcontractor logistics manager. Establishes and maintains a logistical liaison effort to support an annually funded NSF contract operating in all areas of the world. Plans, controls, and guides the flow of people and materials to and from the current operating area. Establishes, operates for approximately ten days, and closes down field offices annually in foreign and domestic ports. The Materials Specialist, under general supervision, oversees aspects of operations supply. Manages acquisition of supplies to be procured in a timely manner in order to ensure that supplies are available for project-specific work.


Port Captain

The SRS Research Administrative Specialist I, under close supervision, is responsible for providing assistance to post-award administration by assisting in tasks such as data entry for cost sharing, reconciling of projects for compliance, assisting in the creation of reports as needed by project administrators, reviewing sponsored project travel and subaward invoices for project compliance, and other functional areas within SRS; assisting with TAMUS member questions, and providing information to their research administrators; and providing great customer service and critical thinking skills as they are a crucial part of the day-to-day operations of SRS. Interprets award documents, sponsor regulations, federal, and state laws/regulations, system policies and member rules in order to fulfil the responsibilities in assisting the Research Administrator with functional duties. Works on project closeouts and assists with audit transactions, assists with compiling statistics and data, prepares documentation and reports as requested. Serves as a resource to assist the Research Administrator in researching and determining solutions to issues associated with functional area assignments.

Coordinates with sponsors to address questions to ensure accurate proposal submissions and post award management. Responsible for reviewing billing requirements, preparing quarterly and annual reports, monitoring standard awards, and ensuring compliance with policies, federal and state regulations, and sponsor requirements.

SRS Research Administrator IV

The SRS Research Administrator IV, under general supervision, works independently in processing, administering, and submitting non-standard, complex research proposal and budget documents that comply with sponsor guidelines, Federal Cost Accounting Standards, and Texas A&M University System member policies. Coordinates with sponsors to address questions to ensure accurate proposal submissions and post award management. Responsible for management oversight of the project. Responsible for reviewing billing requirements, preparing quarterly and annual reports, monitoring standard awards, and ensuring compliance with policies, federal and state regulations, and sponsor requirements. May be tasked with mentoring and training other staff.


Supervisor, CMP Research Animal

The CMP Research Animal Supervisor supervises and oversees the day-to-day activities and responsibilities of CMP animal care staff. Performs routine and non-routine husbandry duties and cares for research animals for assigned conventional, specific pathogen free (SPF), biohazard contained, and barrier reared laboratory animal colonies. Monitors overall animal husbandry activities and the care and maintenance of assigned CMP facility. Maintains inventories and initiates orders for laboratory animals, feed, equipment, and supplies for facility operations.


Third Assistant Engineer

The Third Assistant Engineer, under general supervision, assists in operating and maintaining the ship’s propulsion machinery and related systems, performing maintenance and repair support to the engine department and performing other duties as required by Chief Engineer/First Engineer. Participate in delivery of for-credit marine engineering courses, both classroom academic instructions as well as shipboard practical instruction.
