Public Service Loan Forgiveness

If you are employed by a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization, you might be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Our office can assist for TAMU, TAMUG, TAMHSC and TDEM. 

NOTE: Many loan servicing entities are moving employer verification to direct electronic (DocuSign) requests.  Submission of paper forms to our office is still an option. 

Direct Electronic (DocuSign) Requests 

  • Sent directly to payroll by the Loan Servicing Entity 
  • Payroll staff completes the form electronically; there is no provision for us to request a copy be sent to the employee. 
  • Payroll does not keep a copy of our electronic responses 
  • Most likely, the Loan Servicing Entity WILL NOT notify the employee of receipt of our electronic form completion. 
  • Some electronic requests must be declined if sent to our office in error (for example, the employee may work for TEES or AgriLife).  We add comments why we are declining but understand many Loan Servicing Entities do not review this, resulting in duplicate requests and declinations.  Please make sure your Loan Servicing Entity is provided accurate employment information to avoid delays. 

Paper Forms 

  • Your Loan Servicing Entity or the employee must complete page 1 of the paper form before sending to Payroll at payroll@tamu.edu. 
  • Payroll only needs pages 1 & 2 of the paper Public Service Loan Forgiveness form from the Help Tool; you do not need to submit the entire packet. 
  • Payroll will fax the completed paper form to the Loan Servicing Entity; we will also send a copy to the employee via Filex. 

In all cases, it is the employees’ responsibility to follow-up with their Loan Servicing Entity on the status of the forgiveness.
