System Employee Benefits Advisory Committee (SEBAC)

SEBAC Defined: SEBAC stands for System Employee Benefits Advisory Committee. This committee is an advisory group that makes recommendations to The Texas A&M University System administration on various issues relating to employee benefits. The group is responsible for working with the System Risk Management/Benefits Administration Office to advise about the benefits programs and packages offered to A&M System employees and retirees. SEBAC is governed by System Regulation 31.02.03.

SEBAC Representative Duties: The SEBAC representative represents the benefit needs and concerns of all University benefits-eligible employees, including faculty, staff and graduate student employees. The SEBAC representative should demonstrate mature judgment, special abilities toward and the sincere interest in employee insurance programs, and be able to represent the needs of all employees during the duration of the two-year term. To serve effectively in this capacity, it is necessary for the SEBAC representative to commit sufficient time to solicit input and feedback from constituents about benefits coverage for employees and retirees, and attend quarterly and other subcommittee meetings. Election Process: According to the Texas Insurance Code, SEBAC members are nominated and then elected by popular vote. Each System Member is limited to one representative who will serve a two-year term. Human Resources is charged with coordinating the SEBAC nomination and election process for the University's representative, Texas A&M Health's (HSC) representative, and Texas A&M Galveston's representative. All Texas A&M University benefits-eligible faculty, staff, and graduate assistants including those at Galveston, Qatar, and the Texas A&M Health are encouraged to submit nominations.
