SUMMARY
General Description: Assists the Director in all aspects of departmental operations and administration, and/or maintains responsibility for a major functional unit(s) within a department. May represent the Director in their absence and make key administrative decisions.
DUTIES
Typical: Serves as part of department’s leadership team; leads strategic planning for area(s) supervised and assists Director in developing and implementing overall departmental strategic plan; responsible for annual budget preparation and expense control for area(s) of responsibility and provides input into overall department budget; established performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of area(s) of responsibility; assists Director in formulating and implementing policies and procedures; supervises and directs staff and activities of project teams or functional area(s); oversees the coordination of programs, ensuring program goals are consistent with departmental and university mission; serves on various university, division, and departmental committees and represents department at various state and national associations; assures compliance with all unit, department, university and government standards, policies and procedures; develops reports, analyses and surveys for Director; completes special projects as requested by Director; performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Received: General instruction and periodic review from administrative supervisor.
Given: General instruction and regular review to classified and nonclassified staff and student workers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Seven years of progressively responsible management experience.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree. Seven or more years of experience in responsible management experience, preferably in higher education, including some supervisory experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION
Required: None.
Preferred: None.
EQUIPMENT
Typical: Working knowledge of standard office equipment, microcomputers and mainframe environments.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Typical: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
