SUMMARY
General Description: Assists the Director in all aspects of departmental operations and/or maintains responsibility for a major functional unit(s) within a department.
DUTIES
Typical: Serves on management team with Director; participates in developing departmental strategic plan based on unit goals; plans budgets for unit(s) under their supervision and assists Director in planning and budgeting for department; participates in planning, directing and coordinating of operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives; develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates programs; monitors compliance with all unit, department, university and government standards, policies and procedures; develops reports, analyses and surveys as requested by Director; represents the department, division or university on various committees; provides leadership for department along with and in the absence of Director; handles special projects as assigned by the Director; provides supervision and guidance to a team or departmental sub-unit(s); performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Received: General instruction and periodic review from administrative supervisor.
Given: General instruction and regular review to classified and nonclassified staff and student workers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Five years of progressively responsible management experience.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree. Five or more years of experience in responsible management experience, preferably in higher education, including some supervisory experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION
Required: None.
Preferred: None.
EQUIPMENT
Typical: Working knowledge of standard office equipment, microcomputers and mainframe environments.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Typical: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
