AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II

SUMMARY
General Description: Performs agricultural field laboratory and/or greenhouse research activities and supervises personnel and the operation of equipment in agricultural operations.
DUTIES
Typical: Independently pursues an assigned series of processes, making on-site decisions in accordance with existing conditions as related to objectives of designed research; constructs, modifies, adapts, and adjusts scientific apparatus and equipment; records and evaluates field data, keeping notes and cataloging samples; treats, feeds, handles, and otherwise cares for experimental animals; develops, organizes, and orders supplies and materials for specific procedures; identifies, plants, maintains, and harvests crops being studied; calculates, records, and summarizes field data for analyses; inspects fields and crops to determine requirements for maintaining desired plant growth; formulates, calibrates, and applies fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or other experimental products; performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION
Received: General instruction and periodic review from project leader.
Given: Detailed initial instruction and frequent review to Agricultural Research Technicians, other personnel, and Student Workers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: High school graduation supplemented by college courses in agriculture or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Five years in agriculture-related work, with two years in a supervisory capacity.
Preferred: Additional experience in agricultural research and project/personnel management. Additional experience in agricultural research and project/personnel management.
