ANIMAL CLINIC SUPERVISOR

SUMMARY

General Description:  Supervises technical and non-technical employees who support the instructional and service programs of a veterinary clinic; assures the quality of routine animal care.

DUTIES

Typical:  Assists the department head in coordinating, planning and directing all clinical and teaching programs; ensures that the standards of animal care meet the requirements of the university and federal agencies; assists in preparing budgets and the assignment of personnel and resource allocations to programs and projects; coordinates the development of policies, operational standards and goals; evaluates personnel; manages the animal husbandry and veterinary medical care requirements of instructional and research animals and of client-owned animals; manages physical facilities and hospital equipment, and performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction and occasional review from department head.
Given:  Detailed initial instruction and periodic review of clinic employees and Student Workers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  Bachelor's degree in allied health sciences or biomedical sciences or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Three years experience in animal care with emphasis in a clinical hospital, including supervisory experience.
