ANIMAL CARETAKER SUPERVISOR

SUMMARY
General Description: Directs and trains animal care personnel and participates in work of the animal care facility.
DUTIES
Typical: Directs and participates in the cleaning of animal housing facilities and feeding equipment; applies basic principles of handling and restraint of animals, sanitation and disinfection; plans work routines and schedules for subordinate animal care personnel; trains new employees; directs cleaning of animal examination rooms, surgery rooms, treatment rooms, laboratories, and other clinic areas; directs operation, care, and maintenance of mechanical and other equipment; directs and participates in providing routine care for animals; prepares basic animal food; feeds and waters animals; coordinates bathing, dipping, and grooming of animals; advises animal care personnel in implementation of special instructions from professional staff members; performs delegated duties in the absence of the Animal Clinic supervisor; performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION
Received: General instruction and periodic review from Animal Clinic supervisor or other supervisor.
Given: General instruction and periodic review to Animal Caretakers I and II.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Three years in animal care.
Preferred: Additional training in personnel management. Supervision of animal caretakers.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION
Required: None.
Preferred: Certificate of Laboratory Animal Care.
EQUIPMENT
Typical: Use of wet/dry vacuum cleaner, blower/dryer, meat grinder, pressure washer, front-end loader, tractor, power sweeper, fork lift, dump truck, and manure spreader.
