SUMMARY

General Description:  Provides routine care for animals and related facilities.

DUTIES

Typical:  Cleans animal housing facilities and feeding equipment; operates cage washers; prepares disinfectants and insecticides; sanitizes and disinfects animal facilities; handles and restrains animals; transports animals, bulk feed, and bedding materials; prepares basic animal food; feeds and waters animals; bathes, dips, and grooms animals; cleans animal examination rooms, surgery rooms, treatment rooms, and laboratories; maintains equipment; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  Detailed initial instruction and frequent review from Animal Caretaker II, Animal Caretaker Foreman, Animal Clinic Supervisor or other supervisor.
Given:  None.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  Ability to comprehend instructions. No experience required.
Preferred:  High school graduation. One year in related work.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  None.
Preferred:  None.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  Use of pressure washer and wet/dry vacuum cleaner.
