ACCELERATOR TECHNICIAN II

SUMMARY
General Description: Monitors, maintains, and repairs all components of the Cyclotron; supervises other technical personnel; assures the safety and security of employees and equipment.
DUTIES
Typical: Supervises and trains technical employees in the operation of the Cyclotron; sets up experimental equipment for researchers; designs, modifies and tests experimental equipment; monitors all components of the Cyclotron including electrical systems, cooling units, amplifiers, computer systems, vacuum systems, and ion sources; compares system performance and output to predetermined standards; identifies system failures and makes repairs; designs and builds electronic equipment; monitors radiation levels and assists the Radiological Safety Office in assuring compliance with safety regulations and practices; assures the safe operation of Cyclotron equipment and systems, and security of the Cyclotron building; monitors the building and facilities on weekends and after regular hours as required; performs related duties as required.

Received: General instruction from and periodic review by Accelerator Specialist.
Given: Detailed instruction to and review of Accelerator Technicians I.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: High school graduation supplemented by either college level courses in physics or electronics, or vocational training in operating and maintaining high power electronic equipment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years experience in the operation and maintenance of high power electronic equipment.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in physics. Cyclotron experience.
