SUMMARY
General Description: Monitors, maintains, and repairs all components of the Cyclotron; monitors radiation levels and assures safety of employees and security of the Cyclotron building.
DUTIES
Typical: Monitors all components of the Cyclotron, including electrical systems, cooling units, amplifiers, computer systems, vacuum systems, and ion sources; compares system performance to predetermined standards; identifies system failures and makes repairs; builds electrical components; monitors radiation levels and assists the Radiological Safety Office in assuring compliance with safety regulations and practices; controls electrical safety and mechanical safety and the security of the building and monitors use of shops and facilities on weekends and holidays when on duty; assists and supports the research staff by setting up and testing experimental equipment; performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION
Received: Detailed initial instruction from and periodic review by Accelerator Technician II or Accelerator Specialist.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: High school graduation supplemented by either college level courses in physics or electronics, or vocational training in operating and maintaining high power electronic equipment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Some experience in the operation and maintenance of high power electronic equipment.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in physics.
