ASSISTANT ANATOMICAL LABORATORY MANAGER

SUMMARY
General Description: Works closely with Anatomical Laboratory Manager to ensure that teaching specimens are ready and available for instructor and student use in the Gross Anatomy Teaching Laboratory.
DUTIES
Typical: Ensures cadavers and specimens are available for students; serves as back-up to manager in their absence; properly anesthetizes, euthanizes and embalms animals for use as cadavers; cooks, cleans, bleaches, degreases and constructs skeletal specimens; assists manager with the supervision and training of other laboratory personnel and student workers in proper techniques for cadaver and specimen preparation; organizes, distributes and cares for cadavers, specimens and student table arrangements in laboratory; orders and performs inventory of supplies and ancillary equipment for laboratory, embalming facility and osteology laboratory; properly disposes of all waste (chemical and animal) and maintains and cleans laboratory, coolers and shop areas; performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Received: General instruction and occasional review from administrative supervisor.
Given: General supervision of student workers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of laboratory experience.
Preferred: Some college and training/experience in euthanizing and embalming processes. One or more years of experience in an anatomy department of a medical or veterinary school.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION
Required: None.
Preferred: None.
EQUIPMENT
Typical: Use of personal computers.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Typical: Knowledge of animal anatomy, specifically dog and horse. Experience in euthanizing and embalming. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
