ADVANCED SECURITY OFFICER

SUMMARY

General Description:  Responsible for providing a visible security presence throughout buildings and property of Texas A&M University.

DUTIES

Typical:  Patrols buildings and grounds to check for suspicious activities of personnel, unlocked doors, fires, and water leaks; reports all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity to the University Police Department; provides information to visitors, students, and employees or directs such inquiries to appropriate personnel; provides courtroom testimony when appropriate; assumes "high profile" status as a deterrent to criminal activity; provides coverage for screening checkpoint in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Federal Regulation 49 CFR 1542 if assigned to Easterwood Airport; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General supervision and periodic review from Security Officer Supervisors or University Police Officer.
Given:  None.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and education. Two years of full-time employment or military service. One year as a Security Officer and favorable recommendation by Departmental Review Board.
Preferred:  College courses in criminal justice or behavioral science programs. Prior employment involving contact with the public sector.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  State of Texas class "C" vehicle operator's license. Must undergo training and certification to be an armed Security Officer and carry an authorized sidearm while on duty if assigned to the Easterwood Airport.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Typical:  Physical ability and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities which require outside working conditions and rotating shifts with varying days off. Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
