ART DEPARTMENT SUPERVISOR

SUMMARY

General Description:  Plans, schedules, and supervises art department activities.

DUTIES

Typical:  Exercises independent judgment in assigning work, completing jobs, and maintaining equipment; trains subordinate personnel in the art techniques; schedules priorities and work of employees; estimates time for jobs; insures quality and correct specifications of finished product; assists customers concerning graphic and production requirements of overall job; maintains production schedules showing location and status of all jobs; participates in the preparation of illustrations, design, layout, and other art work for publications and other media; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction and occasional review from administrative supervisor.
Given:  Detailed initial instruction and periodic review to art department personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Four years in graphic art, commercial art, illustration, or design.
Preferred:  Associate degree in art. Two years as a supervisor of artists or art department.

Preferred:  None.
