ARCHITECTURE SHOP SUPERVISOR

SUMMARY

General Description:  Supervises the operations of the woodshop and/or metal shop.

DUTIES

Typical:  Supervises and schedules staff and student workers; coordinates with design faculty on student projects; mentors and supervises students in use of materials, methods and model design; teaches woodworking and metal working techniques to faculty, staff and students; oversees shop safety to include setting safety standards and standard operating procedures, producing maintenance reports on a daily, weekly monthly, quarterly and annual basis, creating safety analysis documentation, ensuring safe equipment, purchasing safety equipment, posting safety notices, and instructing and supervising users in the proper use of equipment; maintains and repairs various woodworking and/or metal working equipment and ensures that equipment is in good working condition and ready for use; purchases equipment and supplies; coordinates the availability of funds and oversees shop budget; prepares yearly consumable supply inventory and manages the inventory of supplies used in the woodshop; applies first aid if needed; coordinates with faculty regarding workflow and special needs; oversees tool check-out and inventory system; ensures adherence to lock-out procedures; completes and files First Reports of Injury; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction and periodic review from administrative supervisor.
Given:  Detailed instruction and frequent review of student workers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation supplemented by completion of formal or practical vocational training or Associate’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Four years woodworking and/or metal working and welding experience, including two years of supervisory experience. AutoCAD experience.
Preferred:  Specific coursework in woodworking and/or metal working techniques, shop safety, First Aid, CPR and computer training. Inventory and scheduling management experience. MasterCAM experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  Class “C” or higher driver’s license.
Preferred:  None.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  Skilled knowledge of woodworking and metal working equipment including CNC Router, CNC Plasma and various types of welding equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Typical:  Forklift experience, good customer service skills, including willingness to work with vendors.
