AIRPORT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY

General Description:  Assists in the construction, maintenance, and repair of airport facilities, vehicles, and equipment. Assists with skilled/semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repair of the physical plant at Easterwood Airport.

DUTIES

Typical:  Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on airport fuel trucks, fire and rescue equipment, other airport vehicles, and a variety of small engine/handheld equipment; assists with repair of asphalt/concrete runways and other surfaces; uses welders and cutting torches to fabricate special parts for equipment; mows borders of runways, taxiways, and around critical aviation navigational equipment; repairs lighting and drainage systems on runways, taxiways, and other airfield areas; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction and periodic review from Special Equipment Shop Foreman.
Given:  Detailed instruction and frequent review to assigned student workers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High School graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum three years experience in mechanical maintenance work (equipment and buildings).
Preferred:  Completion of federally certified apprentice program. Experience with electrical, plumbing, and air conditioning repairs.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  Valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "C" vehicle operator's license within 30 days of employment.
Preferred:  None.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  Use of welding/acetylene equipment, saws, planers, and standard vehicle maintenance tools.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Typical:  Must be able to understand, follow and give verbal and written instructions. Must have the ability to work long hours, perform light to heavy physical work in noisy environment and in all weather conditions.
