AIR CONDITIONING & REFRIGERATION MECHANIC II

SUMMARY

General Description:  Supervises the installation and maintenance of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating systems.

DUTIES

Typical:  Assists foreman in scheduling and supervising work of journeyman mechanics and apprentices; assists in the preparation of cost estimates and manpower requirements in large equipment overhauls and inspections; supervises the operative and preventive maintenance program of space conditioning equipment and environmental systems; participates in the maintenance and operation of low and high pressure steam and hot water boilers used for heating requirements; services, repairs, and operates all air conditioning and refrigeration and heating systems on a relief basis during vacation periods; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction and periodic review from Technical Trades Foreman.
Given:  Detailed initial instruction and frequent review to apprentices and helpers and general supervision to Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Mechanics I.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Six years air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic experience.
Preferred:  Completion of a federally certified HVAC apprentice program. Courses in mechanical engineering. Four years journeyman air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic, including one year as a leader or supervisor. Licensed air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  Valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "C" vehicle operator's license within 30 days of employment. Must have EPA Class I, II, III and Universal Refrigerant Certification.
Preferred:  Licensed air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  None.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Typical:  Working knowledge of electric and pneumatic test equipment, calibration panel, charging sets, and other mechanical equipment pertinent to the trade.
