SUMMARY

General Description:  Prepares specifications and bid invitations for routine purchases.

DUTIES

Typical:  Makes routine purchases of supplies and equipment; prepares specifications and solicits and evaluates competitive bids; updates a source file; solicits and catalogs new product information; confers with various vendors; assists supervising buyer in various major projects; assures that policies of the purchasing department concerning routine purchases are followed; confers with various Texas A&M University personnel regarding requested purchases; assists in soliciting and evaluating bids; maintains proper inventory levels; tests new products for quality; interacts with state General Services Commission staff; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction and periodic review from Purchasing Agent or Senior Buyer.
Given:  None.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years in purchasing or materials management field.
Preferred:  Major field of study in business administration, science or engineering.
