SUMMARY

General Description:  Responsible for the daily operation of the Physical Plant Communications Center including training of personnel on knowledge of the practices and procedures used to operate a central switchboard.

DUTIES

Typical:  Hires; trains; evaluate performance; schedules the work and training of Physical Plant Communications Center personnel; responsible for managing the key inventory and lock box for temporary key issue for plant personnel and contractors; perform daily inventory of lock box; ensures proper authorization is received prior to issuing keys; manages the campus-wide system for the Fire Alarm and Annunciation system to include fire, intrusion and mechanical failure alarms; ensures appropriate action is taken by the Communications Center Dispatchers to include contacting ambulance, fire, police, Environmental Health & Safety, building or maintenance personnel; maintains the proctor database for the Radio Room; reports accidents and unsafe working conditions; uses proper personal protective equipment; follows safety procedures outlined in the Material Safety Data sheets; participates in safety training; follows the standard guidelines set forth in the Texas A&M University Fuel Gas Delivery Systems Management Plan; participates in skill development initiatives such as Combustible Gas Indicator training; maintains a working knowledge of Fuel Gas Code (NFPA 54) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code (NFPA 58) and 49 CFR 192; manages two-way radios for campus; maintains database of radio inventory; order radios and accessories; provides telephone directory service to customers of the University, System, and Agency offices in the area; may forward calls or establish conference calls; performs related duties as required.

Received:  General instruction and review from supervisor.
Given:  General review of Centrex Radio Operators.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years experience with multi-line phones and/or radio dispatch.

Required:  None.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  Two-way radio, telephone switchboard/terminal, alarm systems, and computer equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Typical:  Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software programs. Interpersonal, communications, and keyboarding skills.
