COMMUNICATIONS CENTER SUPERVISOR

SUMMARY
General Description: Provides oversight and direction to the Physical Plant Communications Center and administrative areas of the Facilities Division including productivity management, personnel, training, and the administrative staff; responsible for coordination of utility outages for the University.
DUTIES
Typical: Manage the hiring; evaluate performance; works with the Physical Plant Training office to develop and update a comprehensive training program for the Communications Center Dispatchers and facility clerks; develops a program to update Position Descriptions; oversees and manages implementation, training, and use of Centrex, voice recorder, and Communications systems; assists with the management of the campus-wide system for fire, intrusion and mechanical failure alarms; follows the standard guidelines set forth in the Texas A&M University Fuel Gas Delivery Systems Management Plan; participates in skill development initiatives such as Combustible Gas Indicator training; maintains a working knowledge of Fuel Gas Code (NFPA 54) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code (NFPA 58) and 49 CFR 192; assists with the management of the campus-wide system for Fire Alarm and Annunciation system to include fire, intrusion, and mechanical failure alarms; reports accidents and unsafe working conditions; uses proper personal protective equipment; follows safety procedures outlined in the Material Safety Data Sheets; participates in safety training; coordinates between University customers and the Physical Plant; assts with scheduling utility outages for the University; represents the department to internal and external customers; responsible for property management of the Communications Center; and performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION
Received: General instruction and review from supervisor.
Given: Detailed initial instruction and periodic review of Communications Center personnel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Four years administrative experience with a physical plant or public works environment in communications.

EQUIPMENT
Typical: Typical Two-way radio, telephone switchboard/terminal, alarm systems, and computer equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Typical: Excellent ability in writing/communication, word processing, and spreadsheet applications; knowledge of budget, human resources/personnel management, regulatory compliance, training, and supervision.
