RECORDS MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN I

SUMMARY

General Description:  Performs entry level records management, mail distribution, & file management functions.

DUTIES

Typical:  Will be trained to create, maintain, and organize files and records; to maintain file-tracking system and to manage office imaging system and active files to include color coding and indexing; to serve as records retention coordinator for suite and to ensure compliance with the Texas A&M University System records retention schedule; to oversee proper destruction and/or transfer of documents and imaging label making, and faxing; to collect, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail, faxes and supply/storage room maintenance; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  Detailed initial instruction and frequent review from immediate supervisor.
Given:  May supervise student workers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. One year in a general office setting.
Preferred:  Associate’s degree or equivalent. Records Management experience or similar setting. Previous supervisory and Texas A&M University experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  None.
Preferred:  None.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  Use of personal computer.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Typical:  Keyboarding skills. Ability to provide excellent customer service and good organizational skills. Ability to comprehend complex & demanding filing systems. Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Working knowledge of databases TabQuick, records retention schedules, and filing is preferred.
