SUMMARY

General Description:  Performs the most complex library and customer service functions; supervises a library unit or function and assigned staff.

DUTIES

Typical:  Performs the most complex library functions requiring use of independent judgment; supervises a library unit or function and assigned staff; provides expert advice and guidance on unit functions; may provide occasional subject matter expertise in an academic discipline; may serve on a Library Career Ladder Review Board; may perform duties of Library Associate I or Library Specialist classifications; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General guidance and occasional review from a faculty member.
Given:  General guidance and periodic review to subordinate Library Associates, Library Specialists, and Student Workers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Three years as a Library Associate I or equivalent or eight years of library experience. (Thirty or more hours of higher education credits may substitute for a year of library experience. A baccalaureate or higher degree in Library Science may substitute for four years of library experience.)

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Typical:  Thorough knowledge of library services and interrelationships between units. Expert knowledge of unit functions. Strong communications, planning, and interpersonal skills.
