SUMMARY

General Description:  Performs difficult library functions and provides general customer service.

DUTIES

Typical:  Performs a broad range of activities, often complex and non-routine (e.g., creates, maintains and updates automated system records which contain complex elements requiring use of advanced resources; evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques and guidelines to record handling; applies standard guidelines to analyze and interpret data from standard vendor and system reports; handles routine and some complex interlibrary and document delivery requests; provides customer service support and may assist in the resolution of user complaints); may perform some complex library functions requiring limited use of independent judgment; uses standard and advanced databases and other resources to resolve problems; may supervise Library Specialists I and II or Student Workers; may perform duties of Library Specialist I/II classifications; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction and periodic review from Library Associates.
Given:  May give detailed instruction and period review of subordinate Library Specialists and Student Workers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience Two years as a Library Specialist II or four years of library experience. (Thirty or more hours of higher education credits may substitute for a year of library experience. A baccalaureate or higher degree in Library Science may substitute for four years of library experience.)
