SENIOR MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST

SUMMARY

General Description:  Performs technical clerical work in transcribing medical/laboratory cases and serves as liaison between medical facilities and clients.

DUTIES

Typical:  Reviews medical records for completeness and conformity to accepted medical/laboratory standards; transcribes clinical history on cases from dictation and written text; verifies accuracy of typed copy on all medical/laboratory data, enters test results into computer terminal, and maintains computer files; communicates with professional and support staff regarding transcriptions; handles client calls and resolves administrative questions; initiates searches for medical/laboratory results; refers clients to diagnosticians for interpretation of test results; prepares and maintains confidential medical/laboratory reports; may supervise and provides training to new medical transcriptionists; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction and occasional review from administrative supervisor.
Given:  Occasional instruction and review to Medical Transcriptionists.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years medical transcribing experience.
Preferred:  Graduation from a school of medical records technology. Additional medical transcribing experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  None.
Preferred:  None.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  Use of personal computers.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Typical:  Knowledge of medical terminology.
