SUMMARY

General Description:  Performs general secretarial duties involving the exercise of independent judgment in work methods and procedures.

DUTIES

Typical:  Transcribes, proofreads, corrects, and produces in final form, letters, reports, and tables; opens, reads, and distributes mail and sorts and bundles outgoing mail; maintains fiscal, administrative, and academic records; operates standard office equipment; interviews, screens, and refers students and general callers; explains organizational policies and procedures; answers telephone and schedules appointments for supervisor; places local and long distance calls; may prepare or check requisitions, vouchers, payrolls, activity reports, and similar items; operates typewriter, word processor, or microcomputer; composes rough drafts of correspondence, reports, and other materials; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction on new assignments and occasional review of major or complex work from administrative supervisor.
Given:  None.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. One year in secretarial work.
Preferred:   Three years in secretarial work.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  None.
Preferred:  Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) certification.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  Use of standard office equipment.
