SUMMARY

General Description:  Performs clerical and secretarial tasks that require expertise in a foreign language.

DUTIES

Typical:  Spends a significant portion (at least 50%) of time completing secretarial tasks which require fluency in one or more foreign languages; types correspondence, manuscripts, technical and administrative reports, tests, and other material; opens, reads, and distributes mail; operates standard office equipment; administers, grades, and processes foreign language credit by exam tests; screens and refers students and general callers, answers varied inquiries and explains organizational policies and procedures; answers telephone and makes appointments for supervisor; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION

Received:  General instruction on new assignments and occasional review of major or complex work from immediate supervisor.
Given:  Detailed initial instruction to and periodic review of clerical staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:  High school graduation, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, supplemented by thorough oral and written competency in English and in the specified foreign language or languages deemed necessary to the tasks required. One year in secretarial work.
Preferred:  Some experience in the required language or languages. Two years in secretarial work utilizing foreign language skills and in translating languages.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION

Required:  None.
Preferred:  Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) certification.

EQUIPMENT

Typical:  Use of standard office equipment.
