SUMMARY
General Description: Performs advanced clerical duties and handles routine operational details, including the maintenance of administrative, fiscal, and academic records.
DUTIES
Typical: Performs standard administrative duties in the support of one or more professional staff members; may directly supervise the work of a clerical staff and coordinate clerical activity within a department; helps train and advise other clerical personnel located within the same organizational unit; performs specialized tasks requiring analytical ability; compiles information for budget reports and specialized studies; assists in developing work standards and procedures and in seeking solutions to work problems; assists professional staff on microcomputer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, and data management; checks documents for completeness and accuracy; greets visitors and schedules appointments; answers inquiries regarding policies and procedures; may post, evaluate, or analyze a wide variety of complex records of an official and confidential nature; maintains and revises filing and indexing system; issues receipts and collects cash register tapes, checking money against records and making required fiscal reports; answers telephone and places local and long distance calls; operates a typewriter, word processor, or microcomputer and proofreads correspondence or other material; performs data entry and information retrieval; performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION
Received: General instruction and occasional review from administrative supervisor.
Given: Detailed initial instruction and periodic review of clerical staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience and specific training in the use of word processors, microcomputers and allied software. Two years in varied clerical work.
Preferred: Three years in clerical work in The Texas A&M University System. Good interpersonal communication skills with the ability to organize and make decisions. Supervisory experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATION
Required: None.
Preferred: Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) certification.

Typical: Use of standard office equipment.
