Change in Criminal History Background Check Procedures (3-25-09)
Hiring supervisors and HR Liaisons need to be aware of an important change in the criminal background check procedures. When a conviction is found that was not self-disclosed by the applicant on the application, Human Resources (HR) will contact the applicant to confirm the information and allow the applicant to provide any corrective or contextual information. Then, HR will contact the hiring supervisor or the designated, departmental security sensitive contact person. Adding the step of contacting the applicant in the process will help to eliminate identification errors and increase the accuracy of the information, as well as remove some of the burden from the hiring supervisor in discussing these difficult topics with applicants.
