Factor Competencies Paired with Employee Development Workshops

These competencies support the required factors in the annual Performance Development and Evaluation for Non-Faculty Employees. Each required factors is listed below with a description of behaviors that an outstanding TAMU employee would be expected to exhibit. Linked from each factor is a list of courses within our curriculum which would allow an employee to further develop their specific skills in that area.

Factor Competencies are listed below with a description of behaviors that a Texas A&M employee would be expected to exhibit to rate “outstanding” on the annual Performance Development and Evaluation for Non-Faculty Employees.

Quality of Work:

Performs assigned duties accurately and thoroughly with only minimal errors. An outstanding employee produces work of the highest quality; rarely makes errors.

Quantity of Work:

Completes assigned work within the prescribed time limits. An outstanding employee completes work ahead of schedule; seeks additional tasks; recognized by co-workers as a "peak performer".

Initiative:

Demonstrates independent action and resourcefulness on the job; performs duties in an acceptable manner with minimal supervision. An outstanding employee constantly exhibits independent action and resourcefulness; exercises outstanding judgment on knowing when to seek guidance from supervisor; highly motivated worker.

Innovation:

Adds value and creates efficiencies to the work performed by developing new methods or offering constructive suggestions. An outstanding employee makes exceptional contributions to the efficient operation of the unit. They consistently seek ways to improve work methods and offer constructive positive suggestions.

Cooperation and Customer Service:

Is courteous and works well with customers and co-workers. An outstanding employee constantly anticipates and meets the needs of customers; always communicates and works well with co-workers and customers.

Job Knowledge:

Understands assigned duties and job responsibilities. Understands the organization's policies, procedures, goals and purpose as required for the job. An outstanding employee demonstrates exceptional knowledge and skills in the most complex aspects of the job.

Leadership:

Influences, supports, and motivates staff and co-workers. Effectively makes decisions within the scope of assigned position, and uses resources wisely. This individual demonstrates leadership that supports the University's Statement of Vision and Values. An outstanding employee inspires staff and/or co-workers to excel; leads by example; makes timely and productive decisions; uses resources wisely; delegates effectively; always supports the University's Statement of Vision and Values.

Quality of Work Life:

Creates a supportive work environment with open communication that values and encourages co-workers while treating them with dignity and respect. This person encourages employees to contribute to the success of the University and demonstrates understanding for the family-related responsibilities of others. An outstanding employee excels in open communication skills; leads others to support family-related responsibilities. The outstanding employee promotes a supportive work environment; always treats others with dignity and respect.

Diversity:

Supports Department and University diversity initiatives. This individual contributes to building an enlightened community by creating a climate of openness and inclusiveness. Actively seeks out mutually held values with other employees while respecting and valuing individual differences. An outstanding TAMU employee works diligently to foster an open and inclusive environment; actively involved in diversity initiatives; always displays behavior that respects and values individual differences.

Employee Development (Supervisors only):

Provides development opportunities for each supervised employee. This individual promotes professional growth that supports the Mission of the Vision 2020 initiative. This individual provides leadership and supervision. They create a Professional Development Plan for each employee they supervise. The outstanding TAMU supervisor excels in leadership and supervision; coaches and trains employees for advancement. The outstanding TAMU supervisor provides accurate feedback and creates a Professional Development Plan for each supervised employee.
